Problem: Crowded, yellow, decayed, missing teeth
Solution: Full Mouth Reconstruction
Background: Youn was a successful businessman from Japan. His son-in-law was being treated in America for lung cancer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. His oncologist, Dr. Ali, was a dental patient of mine.
After his cancer treatment was finished, the son-in- law mentioned that Youn was looking for an American dentist to do a tooth implant. Dr. Ali had just visited me for a cleaning and happily recommended us.
But Youn was not taking any chances. First, he sent his assistant from Japan to Los Angeles to come and check out our facility and question us. He checked my résumé and credentials. Apparently he was happy with what he saw, because he advised Youn to make the trip here from Japan to meet me.
Youn said he needed two implants for missing teeth on the upper left side of his mouth. It severely impacted his smile and the way he looked when he spoke. The rest of his teeth were yellowed and had noticeable decay. He had old crowns and his teeth were too close together in some places.
Once we started translating the treatment plan and taking photos, I told him, “This is not how a man of your stature should walk, talk, or smile.” And he agreed. He said he’d been embarrassed about his mouth, but didn’t want to acknowledge it or have it treated in Japan.
I assured him that after the placement of the implants, the rest of his mouth would take no more than two visits to fix.
Treatment: Ultimately, Youn needed a full mouth reconstruction. We first did a deep cleaning and removed all of the build-up. Then we started on the implants. And finally, I placed sparkling veneers that were spaced evenly along his gum line.
End Result: He instantly looked at least 20 years younger. He was delighted! He still lives in Japan, but he comes to me for hygiene visits whenever he visits his son-in-law.
