The bad side of caffeine
Caffeine is one of the most available commercial drugs in the market. That is because it is present in almost all carbonated drinks, and is a prime ingredient of coffee. People who drink coffee are particularly at risk of its side effects. Since coffee and carbonated drinks are widely consumed all over the world, there is little control as to how much any single person’s body would take in a single day. There are studies laying out the benefits of drinking coffee, proving mainly its effectiveness as a stimulant. That is why coffee is mostly consumed by people who are working long hours and need to stay awake late in the evening.
While caffeine, or coffee, in general remains to appear beneficial to people, there are cases where it becomes harmful. People who suffer from hypertension may be put at risk due to caffeine’s ability to effect fluctuations in blood pressure. Pregnant women are especially at risk since whatever they consume would indirectly reach the fetus. There are a lot of medical professionals who believe that the negative effects of caffeine will differ from person to person. Although in general, high doses of caffeine can cause periods of irritability, nausea, heightened pulse rate and even increase of cholesterol levels.
As a general advice, people with health ailments should defer from drinking too much coffee, or avoid it altogether. This includes the elderly who are on the onset of bone ailments due to caffeine blocking the absorption of calcium into the skeleton.
